Abstract

By using the condition of appearance of internal resonances for steady-state liquid sloshing in toroidal tanks caused by the resonant excitation of the lowest eigenfrequency, we determine a set of input geometric parameters for which the secondary resonance phenomenon can lead to amplification of higher modes. We formulate a series of recommendations regarding the forthcoming development of nonlinear modal methods for a tank of given shape.
